Anjouan, also known as Honzoan or Anzoana, or from a historical perspective as Joanna, an independent island in the Indian Ocean, which forms part of the Union of the Comoros
Its capital, Mutsamudu, and as of 2006, has a population of about 277 500. The total area of the island is 424 square kilometers (163 square miles)
It was the first of the island explorers and immigrants from Indonesia and Polynesia, then housing people around the Indian Ocean began to come to Anjouan, Comoros
In about 1500, the Sultanate of Anjouan, which took over the entire island was founded, and was the most powerful of all the sultanates of the Sultanate of Comoros
In 1816, Sultan Alawi bin Hussein requested French assistance against the Sultanate of Zanzibar which was threatening his field, the island came under the French protectorate in 1886 and formally annexed by France in 1912, has joined the Republican opposed strictly by Sultan reigning else but was crushed his forces meager when they offered resistance
